This week we begin the month of Aquarius, known in Hebrew as Shevat. In
the middle of Shevat we celebrate the New Year of the Trees, also
known as Tu B'Shevat. Shevat is a time for us to focus on inner
renewal. Kabbalah teaches that our one purpose is to become
like the Light, in other words to share unconditionally. This
month we have two very powerful reminders of sharing. One in
the symbol of Aquarius, the water carrier, who receives water in
order to share. The second one in the trees, who we celebrate
this month. A tree is the epitome of the perfect balance of
receiving and sharing. A tree receives water, sunlight, the
air, and in turn gives us oxygen to breathe, fruit to eat, and shade. Find
a tree this month and meditate on it and try to learn from it. This
is sure to help us to become more like the Light.
