What's your favorite ride at the amusement park? Is it the
carousel or the roller coaster? The carousel goes round and
round, it's not very exciting. The roller coaster thrills,
excites, and many times even takes your breath away. Whether
or not you like the roller coaster, these first nine days of Av are
just that, a roller coaster of emotions. Chances are you have
had some difficulties this first week of the new month. This
is the time for introspection, to meditate and rely on the Light
within. On Tuesday, we observe Tisha B'Av, the most negative
day of the entire year. The Kabbalists tell us that we can
handle the energy if we know how to connect. The most basic
and powerful connection we can make is to fast. When we fast,
we restrict our ego's desire to receive for itself alone. The
roller coaster ride is not over yet, make sure your seat belt is
fastened, raise your hands in the air, and feel the energy and bless
the Light for this experience which tells us we are alive.
