Mikvah generally means "collection" and
refers to a collection of water. Water is healing and purifying.
The tradition of immersing oneself in a mikvah before Shabbat
or holy days is an ancient one. It is an opportunity to cleanse
and purify the soul before making connections to the Creator's
Light. The Kabbalists did not always have access to a
mikvah (a ritual pool of water found in a synagogue)
or to a place where they could immerse
themselves
in
water. Many
Kabbalists would
do a special mikvah meditation using their ten fingers and
dipping them in water. Together with Rabbi
Shai, we have put together a special mikvah meditation
and connection.
This connection usually takes place 15 minutes
before Kabbalat Shabbat (Friday night) and holy day
connections.
