The Kabbalists explain that the 49 days that connect Passover
with Shavuot correspond to the forty-nine drives and traits
of the human heart. Each day saw the refinement of one of these
S'firot, bringing the people of Israel one step closer to their
election as Hashem’s chosen people and their receiving
of the Torah on Mount Sinai. The Counting of The Omer is an
intense spiritual journey in which we are able to connect to
each S'firah and correct it within our Tree of Life; thereby
not only affecting our personal tikkun (correction), but also
the global tikkun.
The Counting
of The Omer is a time of judgment and negativity. However,
Lag B’Omer (the 33rd Day of the
Omer) is a break in the negativity and the Light begins to
return
as the judgement period ends.
Lag B’Omer and Shavuot are parallel to each other,
however Lag B’Omer is on a higher level. According
to the Kabbalists, it is the receiving of the inner aspect
of the Torah and its
soul,
whereas Shavuot
is the receiving of the external aspect of Torah in the
physical realm.
